2017-18 Competitive Trumpet Ensemble

The Byron Nelson competitive trumpet ensemble has traveled and played at various events for the first time this year. They played at the first International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Regional Conference which was held at the Oklahoma City University. They are also the first high school group to ever make the National Trumpet Convention semi-finals which will be held on March 8th at the University of North Texas. The trumpet ensemble has also been invited to play at the International ITG conference. Students in the ensemble include (from top to bottom) Ben Vaquiz, Kevin Medzorian, Jason Zaharis, Ford Harris, and Kaylee Smith. We are proud of their success and wish them good luck in their ongoing competitive season.

Emily McCollum

2018 was the year when the Byron Nelson Band saw Emily McCollum make it to the top state band. This was a huge accomplishment for Emily and a great way to send off her senior year at Byron, as she was also the first percussionist in the history of the Byron Nelson Band to earn a spot in the All-State Band. We are incredibly proud of Emily and wish her luck on all of her future endeavors!

Christopher Hunley

Christopher Hunley competed in the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) high school solo competition held in Cincinnati and won the honor of 1st place! We are extremely proud of Chris and his amazing accomplishment and look forward to whatever may come next. below is the performance from the Winners' Recital.
